FAQs

What is the Bellevue Schools Foundation?

Bellevue Schools Foundation was founded more than forty years ago by parents and members of the community to raise private dollars to support students and schools in the Bellevue School District. It is a separate organization from the District, and one of the first local educational foundations in the country.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

Yes. Bellevue Schools Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Gifts are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Our tax ID # is 91-1080997.

Why give to the Foundation if I’ve already given to my school/PTSA?

PTSAs are the experts in individual school needs. Bellevue Schools Foundation funds district-wide initiatives such as computer science curriculum development and mental health support for students; initiatives that benefit every student, in every classroom. It takes your participation to make this happen.

Bellevue Schools Foundation funds great programs at your school to help students become successful in school and life. Without your support, many of these programs wouldn’t exist. Giving to PTSA and your school is important—it takes both to ensure our students get the best public education possible!

How much does the Foundation invest in each program?

The programs we support and the levels of support they receive vary each year based on the needs of Bellevue students. Every investment is evaluated during our budgeting process.

How has the Foundation made an impact in the Bellevue School District?

Since its founding in 1979, the Bellevue Schools Foundation and its donors have provided over $25 million to support educational programs and initiatives in Bellevue’s public schools—to ensure the most meaningful learning opportunities for each of our students.

Don’t my taxes pay for the schools?

Taxes pay only a portion of what Bellevue students need. The State of Washington continues to wrestle with fully funding basic education. Bellevue Schools Foundation raises money from parents and the Bellevue community to elevate and enrich public education for every Bellevue student.

Our History

Who decides how funds raised by the Foundation are spent?

Bellevue Schools Foundation’s volunteer board of 20-25 trustees makes those decisions in collaboration with the Executive Director and the Superintendent of the Bellevue School District. Trustees (aka board members) represent the entire Bellevue community—parents, businesses and community leaders.

How can I volunteer?

Volunteer support is essential for both the Foundation and the District. Foundation volunteers help with projects in the office, serve as Foundation Ambassadors to our school communities, serve as Spring for Schools table captains, and more.

Are grants available for schools?

Yes! Arts, Enrichment & Innovation grants provide support for projects or activities that extend the regular curriculum, encourage higher-level thinking skills, or enrich students through arts, culture, or other activities. You can find out more here.

What programs does the Foundation fund at my child’s school?

Funded programs vary by school and grade level, depending on each school’s distinct needs. Our Board of Trustees makes funding decisions based on needs identified and applications received. Many Foundation investments have an impact district-wide.
