Inspiring Stories from BSD Graduates

Dr. Kelly Aramaki, a 1993 graduate of Newport High School, grew up in Bellevue and earned degrees from University of Washington and Columbia University, later completing his doctorate in Educational Leadership at UW in 2018.

He began his career as a teacher in Bellevue. He received the National Milken Educator Award, was named Washington State Elementary Principal of the Year in 2013, and earned the Northwest Asian Weekly Visionary Award. Kelly became Assistant Superintendent in 2022 and has served as Superintendent of the Bellevue School District since July 2023.

Matt Lorch

Event MC, 3-Time Emmy Award Winning Storyteller

Matt grew up in Bellevue, graduated from Sammamish High School and the University of Washington.

He combines dynamic communication, public speaking, and crowd engagement techniques to deliver truly memorable moments and drive fundraising. 

Matt has hosted several charity fundraising events, emceed the Opening Ceremonies of the 2015 Special Olympics Washington Summer Games.

Matt's mother had a long career as an elementary school teacher in the Bellevue School District.

Kelly Koopmans

News Anchor

Kelly Koopmans is the co-anchor of KOMO’s Weekday Morning Newscast. She is a 5 time Emmy Award winner who grew in Bellevue attending BSD schools (Somerset, Tyee and Newport).

Kelly attended the R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University and continued her education at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism where she earned her master’s degree. Before coming to KOMO in 2012, Kelly anchored the 5, 6, and 11 o’clock news at KOMO’s sister station in Eugene, Oregon.
