Helping high school students prepare for their next steps
Bellevue schools have increased academic rigor to better prepare students for higher education\f1\emdash but that\rquote s not enough. By the year 2020, more than two thirds of the jobs in Washington state will require either a college degree or a career credential.
Bellevue parents recognize the need for students to have access to planning tools to make a roadmap for post-high school training or college. Across the district 8-12 graders have Naviance accounts to help them explore career and college options, develop resumes, prepare for SATs, and complete college applications. Naviance is an integrated college and career readiness platform, funded by the Bellevue Schools Foundation donors, that puts tools in place to streamline the college application process and improve student-counselor-parent communication.
In addition, the Foundation supports enhanced counseling for high school students. Ronna Weltman, retired Foundation Trustee, wrote a handbook on writing the college essay, available directly in Naviance for every student.
College Corps and College Application Help Workshops are available to help students with college applications and essays. Contact your counselor for schedule information.
