Educational Program Investments

    Bellevue Schools Foundation's Board of Trustees approves a budget funding a number of different programs each year, investing $1 million in Bellevue Public Schools this year. Decisions are carefully made based on program results, potential impact, and feedback from teachers, parents, and the District.

    TRANSFORMING EDUCATION: $492,000

    • K-12 Computer Science Initiative One of the first-in-the-nation integrated K–12 computer science/computational thinking curricula. Addresses racial and gender equity in computer science education.

    • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) P-5 Initiative Builds foundational in science, technology, engineering, and math for preschool through 8th grade students along with 21st century skills of critical thinking, collaboration, creativity.

    • Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Implements SEL in middle and high school to help children develop self-management, relationship, social and self-awareness skills, and responsible decision-making skills.

    • College & Career Next Steps Initiative Provides enhanced college counseling, college and financial aid application workshops, and 24/7 access to the cloud-based Naviance college and career planning platform.

    • AP Capstone Diploma Program  Equips students with independent research and communication skills increasingly valued by colleges through a two-course high school sequence at Bellevue and Newport high schools.

    • Equity BOOM & Shout Experience Engages Black, Native American, and Latin secondary students with adult facilitators who identify with them on racial, cultural and social topics.

    • Arts, Enrichment & Innovation Grants Enhances students’ education with innovative learning opportunities in and out of the classroom: field trips, visiting authors and artists, innovative tools, books, and more.

    • Music Enrichment Boosts music opportunities through the purchase of musical instruments and equipment for student use throughout Bellevue schools and music achievement through specialized instruction and clinics.

    • Community Engagement: Educational Events and Outreach

    Supporting Students: $508,000

    • Early Learning Provides tuition-free slots for low-income children to attend high-quality Bellevue School District preschools.

    • Project READiness Early Literacy Intervention Helps kindergarten and first grade students at six high-poverty schools meet literacy benchmarks, paving the way for them to “read to learn” by third grade.

    • Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) Helps students with college-preparatory study skills through AVID elective classes and strategies embedded in core secondary school classes.

    • National Board Certification Improves student outcomes through rigorous certification process for teachers. The Foundation has supported more than 400 teachers achieving their NBCT.

    • Volunteers in Bellevue's Education System (VIBES) Supports recruitment, training, placement, and tracking of volunteer mentors and tutors at all 28 Bellevue schools. This successful program offers one-on-one mentoring, study skills coaching (AVID), College Corps college application assistance, and more.

    • Pre-Avid Positive Behavior Intervention at Highland Supports struggling students with AVID preparatory class and with positive behavior intervention. Previous outcomes show elimination achievement gaps for at-risk students.
